Boots on the trail compass
Boots on the Trail puts everything the organization offers in one place on your phone: a directory of veteran service organizations across the region, upcoming events, a guide to area trails, and a peer forum to connect with other veterans. Installing it means one tap gets you there — no searching through texts or bookmarks to find it again.
Get the app on your phone or computer
The Boots on the Trail app lives right in your browser — there's nothing to find in an app store. Add it to your home screen once, and it opens just like any other app from then on.
Pick the device you're using below. iPhone owners install through Safari, not Chrome — Apple only allows one browser to add apps to the home screen.
Android phones — Google Chrome
Chrome usually offers to install the app for you the moment you visit the site. If it doesn't, three taps will do it.
Open the link in Chrome
Visit this web address using the Chrome app on your phone.
Watch for the install banner
A bar reading "Add Boots on the Trail to Home screen" often appears near the bottom of the page. Tap Install if you see it, and skip to step 4.
No banner? Use the menu instead
Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of Chrome, then choose Add to Home screen (sometimes labeled Install app).
Confirm and add
Tap Add, then Add automatically to place the icon on your home screen.
Open it like any other app
Find the Boots on the Trail icon on your home screen or in your app drawer. It opens full-screen, without Chrome's address bar.
iPhone or iPad — Safari
Apple requires apps to be added through Safari, so open the link there even if Chrome is your usual browser.
Open the link in Safari
Visit this web address using Safari, not Chrome.
Tap the Share icon
It's the square with an arrow pointing up, along the bottom of the screen (or top, on iPad).
Choose "Add to Home Screen"
Scroll down the share menu if you don't see it right away.
Tap Add
Confirm the name and tap Add in the top-right corner.
Find it on your home screen
The Boots on the Trail icon now opens full-screen, just like a downloaded app.
Using Chrome on an iPhone? Newer versions of iOS let you install through Chrome too — tap the Share icon in Chrome's address bar and choose Add to Home Screen. If that option isn't there, use Safari instead.
Windows or Mac — Google Chrome
On a computer, the app installs into its own window, separate from your browser tabs.
Visit the site in Chrome
Go to this web address in the Chrome browser.
Find the install icon
Look at the right side of the address bar for a small icon showing a monitor with a downward arrow.
Click Install
Click the icon, then click Install in the box that appears.
Launch it anytime
The app opens in its own window and adds a shortcut to your Start menu (Windows) or Applications folder (Mac).
Don't see the icon? Click the three-dot menu in the top-right of Chrome, then look for Save and share > Install page as app.
