Boots on the Trail ("BOTT," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Boots on the Trail mobile app (the "App"), which connects veterans in Southeast Ohio with veteran service organizations, trail and peer-support events, trail information, and a peer support forum. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information needed to run the App's features:
Account information — when you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password (handled securely by our authentication provider; we never see or store your password in plain text).
Event RSVPs — which events you sign up for, so organizers can plan attendance.
Peer forum content — any posts, comments, or messages you choose to submit in the peer support forum. Treat this space as semi-public among registered users.
Usage information — basic technical data (device type, app version, crash logs) used to keep the App working properly.
We do not require or knowingly collect precise GPS location, and we do not access your contacts, camera, or photos unless a future feature explicitly asks and you grant permission.

To create and maintain your account
To show you the VSO directory, trail directory, and event listings
To manage event RSVPs on behalf of program staff and partner organizations
To operate the peer support forum
To troubleshoot and improve the App
To communicate with you about BOTT programming, if you opt in
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following service providers to function. Each processes data on our behalf under their own security and privacy practices:
Supabase — backend database and account authentication
Expo — mobile app framework and delivery infrastructure
We do not share your personal information with these providers for any purpose beyond operating the App.

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share information only:

If required by law, subpoena, or legal process
To protect the safety of BOTT participants or the public in an emergency
Data Retention & Deletion
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by contacting us below; we will process deletion requests within 30 days, except where we're required to retain certain records by law.
Children's Privacy
The App is intended for adult veterans and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted authentication and secure database access controls, to protect your information. No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your Choices
You can review and update your account information within the App.
You can delete forum posts you've authored.
You can request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the App evolves. We'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify users in-app.
